Seasonal Aisle

starring mh

Synopsis

Seasonal Aisle, the third LP from Starring MH, is a modern take on rock and roll. Saxophone, groovy bass lines, foot stomping rhythmns. Also: violin, a waltz, slide guitar, seering synth / organs. Master engineered with today's cutting edge tech - inc recreations of 70s tape machines. Fun, insightful Matt Hanley songs; a dozen outstanding musicians.. there's something for you here in the seasonal aisle!

Record Notes

This album is the result of several fits of activity: the summer 2019 "BPR" recording sessions (when BPR was planned to be a 3-disc concept album), the "BPR ep" sessions, (late 2019), pandemic recordings (Summer,Fall 2020), and final overdubs, mixing (Feb - April 2021).

Things don't often go as expected. There was a temp absence of drummer Mike. There was an underwhelming reception of the original BPR material. There was the coronavirus. Squabbles. Some tracks begat an arduous trial and error process. Some songs only exist because of terrible news - Eddie Van Halen passing. At one point, the whole notion of Starring MH was left for dead. But, as song 2 states, "stil i go on."

Unlike the first 2 records, this one is not a "moment in time" or realized theme. Life kept pushing back and getting in the way. Eventually I settled on a way forward. We can't be complete conspirators in fate's deeds. We go with the tide, see where it brings us, then figure out if we want to make a home there or paddle away. This is a collection of songs that I pulled together and forced over the finished line, into that glorious seasonal aisle.
