Fun Facts
- Gran Torre Santiago (Constanera Building) is featured both as a background and for interiors (escalators). It is the tallest building in Latin America.
- The scene where Violeta quits her office job, was partly inspired by a viral video from 2013 , Interpretive Dance For MY Boss Set to Kanye West's Gone)
- Before she quits, Violeta wears jewelry. Notice she does not wear it in later scenes.
- Copito the cat ("el gato" in Spanish) lives with Rose and Sammy. She moved herself in, after living with a neighbor. Usually a female name would end in "a" not "o" in Spanish. A star in her own right, Copito has an Instagram following.
- the opening shots are from the Baha'i House of Worship in Peñalolén. It's run by the Baha'i who have opened 11 centers among every continent. The strucutre is unique and the gardens are serene and offer brilliant views on clear days.
- The second day of shooting was done at 6 locations in 3 different districts of Santiago. Only possible by borrowing Sammy's car.
- Violeta and Rose are vegans. Cast and crew ate at vegan restaurants for lunch and dinner.
- Rose, Sammy, Violeta, are each acclaimed and accomplished musicians in Santiago.
- Zuck! The first time the words "record player and a cat" were written, was in Facebook Messenger, in a conversation between MH and the original StarringMH, who were in America and the UK. The video's planning and post-production conversations between MH and Rose were on WhatsApp.
Note from MH
I believe in hunches. I also believe hunches aren't enough. You have to work, commit to a goal, be open to changes, and see things through. So, I had a hunch to ask Rose to produce a video for Record Player & a Cat, and it led to a terrific video. My hunch was based on her creativty and problem-solving and a rock and roll vibe. But the video is a success because Rose saw things through, both on the weekend I was in town, and in her later shoots. It was a lot of work to get the shots, and edit it into a story, and I am grateful for her for pulling it off. I'm grateful for Violeta, too. She nailed the part of the disillusioned city girl , and was a pleasure to work with. It was such a pleasure to be in Santiago, and to be welcomed into the casa of Sammy and Rose and Copito. Fortune smiled on us: great weather, no smog, no violations for filming at stores.. and people in the several neighborhoods were cooperative and encouraging. I'm so stoked about the video. So now I am making a point to tell you about it !
